The day started the same with overcast skies and rain but it did clear to to a beautiful and bright sunny day by 1 PM. We decided to take a ride to Norris Dam State Park and were glad we did.
The area itself is quite spectacular and since Ron is always adventurous he took us on a circuitous route to the park, down winding back roads that eventually became woodsy dirt roads.
We stumbled upon an Old Grist Mill perched along side the river. Because of the lack of rain the wheel was not turning but the mill was beautiful anyway .
We had Jewel with us so Ron and I had to take turns going into the buildings in the park. We visited the W.G. Lenoir Museum that had artifacts on display that I remember seeing in my Grandmother’s house and yard. Ron didn’t get any inside pictures – not sure why???
So Hear are the Photos
We then were able to get in a two mile hike along the river banks.
After our hike we stopped at the Threshing Barn and checked out the antique equipment.
The Norris Dam was just down the road so we headed over to check it out. The water levels are very low due to the drought this area is experiencing so very little water was running through the spillways.
We stopped to check out the Norris Dam CG and were surprised to see only two campers were set up and they were CG hosts.
Back at the CG our neighbor had his trailer open and inside was a complete workshop and several hand made wooden planes.
It turned out to be a really great day. Tomorrow we will be heading to Nashville.
