Day (31) Leaving Fort Pickens, Driving Day

The night had been brutal because of the horrific thunder and lightening storm. Jewel was scared to death and kept trying to get out of the MH. At one point – around 3 am Ron let her out and she quickly returned after being pelted with rain, wind, and lightening. She had never been afraid of thunder and lightening before but I guess the severity of the storms really got to her. The storm and rain did nothing to alleviate the heat and humidity and once Jewel settled down on the bedspread and blanket we kicked off we finally got a couple of hours sleep.

When we got up in the morning , very tired I might add, we debated staying another day but since there was no break in the heat and humidity decided to head out.

Our next stop, Stone Mountain, GA a 400 mile drive. Ron doesn’t usually drive that far except if there is no place to stop so our goal - the Georgia Welcome Center.

As we drove further North there was a definite change in the air and we could feel the welcomed cool down. We had been riding with the windows down because of the non-working dash air and it was a relief to feel comfortable again.

We got to  the Georgia Welcome Center by 6 pm and decided to spend the night. We were another 100 miles from Stone Mountain so this was a good place to stop.

After dinner we finally got a chance to do a good wash job on the windshield and front of the MH to remove the bugs. While we were busy cleaning,a truck pulled up beside us and the man driving  saw our MA plates and told us he was from Freetown. Such a small world we live in.
