We finally broke away from the Small Country CG and its full hook-ups and AC to keep us cool. We found out that the Girls Scouts were celebrating an anniversary and there were over 200,0000 Girl Scouts in Washington, DC – hence no CG availability.
Our next plan was to go to Shenandoah National Park. Since the National Parks free weekend was over we figured it wouldn’t be a problem getting a site.
We drove the 56 short miles and immediately secured a site. We were at 3, 865 feet and the air much cooler, dry and confortable. Not an unusually high elevation but pretty high for this area.
Shenandoah National Park is quite pretty with many beautiful overlooks along both the Sky Line Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway. The overlooks are being refurbished so many were closed bit we did stop at one. Ron and Jewel took the steep trail down to the rocks to get some pictures.

There are no hook-ups in most national CG’s and this was no different but at $10.00 per night for us seniors not a bad deal. Nice place to stay and safe.
A glimpse of the Blue Ridge Mountains through the trees.
Once again – no cell signal or Wi Fi signal. Pretty much no connection with the outside world unless going to one of the overlooks to get a cell signal and then to the lodge for Wi Fi – if its working.
After cooking some veggies and steak on the grille we had a good dinner, enjoyed a campfire then attended the Ranger talk at the amphitheater.
We went to bed early planning to do some hiking in the morning. A good day and evening for us.
