We woke to overcast skies and it called for intermittent showers so we weren’t too concerned. After breakfast we took a ride to the Byrd Visitor Center to try to secure two seats on a tour to President Hoover ‘s compound in the woods. Unfortunately there was only one seat available on the 12-person bus but the ranger told us to come back at boarding – there might be a no-show.
We watched the video on the Shenandoah and toured the museum. We stopped in at the Big Meadows Lodge to check out the menu and to see when they were offering the Tea with the President’s Wives, another historical educational program. Of course we were a day late – as usual so no tea and history lesson for us.
Always a Sysco truck where ever we go.
Since we didn’t have a cell signal we drove to Tanners Overlook and I did get 1.5 bars and was able to get my voicemail messages. Call outs were not happening though.
We stopped back at the Visitor Center to try to get on the tour but everyone showed up. With only one seat available we opted out. I went in and signed up for the Tuesday tour and secured the last two seats on the bus.
As we were leaving the center it started to rain and really didn’t stop for the remainder of the day and night. The fog rolled in and made the entire forest look incredibly serene and ethereal.

The fog rolled in with the rain.
There is a Valley below the tree line.
It was cool watching the fog roll in and out of the CG for most of the evening . The rain never stopped and came down in torrents. We opted out of the ranger program and spent the night listening to the rain on the roof.
